Photographer Mikael Buck wasn't planning on taking any pictures when he visited that Shard last month - and when he saw this view of St Paul's Cathedral he must have regretted not having his camera with him.

Luckily he did have his phone - an iPhone 5, to be specific - and used it to capture this magnificent image while looking out over London on a gloomy February afternoon.

"I saw a beam of sunlight moving across the city and could see it heading towards St Paul's," he told the Telegraph, "so I was frantically trying to get my phone out of my pocket in time.

"I wasn't sure if I'd got the picture straight away - I just managed to get it, right before the sun moved."

While ruling out any divine intervention, Mikael does concede that the photo has a rather celestial bent, and says he'd be "happy if someone looks at it and takes religious inspiration from it."

London-based Mikael is a professional freelance photographer, working on commission for the UK national newspapers and PR agencies. His work has been published in countless newspapers, magazines, websites and books around the world.

His favourite London locations to photograph include Kew Gardens, Richmond Park, and Hampstead Heath - "especially first thing in the morning when there's no-one there."
