The deadly virus, which was first identified in Wuhan city in the Hubei province of China, has affected nearly 84,000 people across more than 50 countries, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.
South Korea has reported around 2,337 confirmed cases, the majority of which has been in Daegu, which has seen around 1,314 people infected, according to a report by the Korea Centers for Disease Control (KCDC) on Friday.
The country currently has the highest number of cases outside China, with a death toll of 13 so far, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.
Suga, who is also known as Min Yoon-gi, was born in Daegu in 1993 and spent his childhood there before moving to Seoul to pursue his music career. His rapper name Agust D is the reverse spelling of "DTSuga", which stands for Daegu Town Suga.
The artist wanted to help his hometown in the midst of the outbreak as well as "repay the love of his fans," through his donation, Allkpop reports.
Bong, the Oscar-winning director of Parasite (which won four Academy Awards this year including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film), was also born in Daegu in 1969. He moved to Seoul during his elementary school years.
Both artists join a string of other Korean celebrities who have made donations to various charities in South Korea to help coronavirus relief efforts, Yonhap reports.
Song Kang Ho, one of the lead actors from the Parasite film, was also reported to have donated nearly $82,000 to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. Song was born in Busan, South Korea's second most populous city, which is located near Daegu. The city has reported around 63 coronavirus cases, according to the KCDC.
The organizations receiving donations so far include the Korean Medical Association, Save the Children, the Community Chest of Korea and Good Neighbors.
