Pregnant woman and her baby die after Ukraine hospital bombing: Mother-to-be in image that shocked the world begged doctors 'kill me now' as she realised child would not survive and medics battled to save her
A Ukrainian injured pregnant woman and her unborn baby - whose picture (left) defined Putin’s barbaric cruelty - have both died. The pain etched on the face of the mother-to-be as she was rushed to an ambulance on a stretcher Russian forces bombed her maternity hospital shocked and appalled the watching world. In video and photos shot last Wednesday after the attack on the hospital, the unnamed lady – who was then still alive - was seen stroking her bloodied lower abdomen as rescuers rushed her through the rubble in the besieged city of Mariupol (right). But when she was taken to another hospital, closer to the frontline, the awful reality of what was happening became apparent. Medics said she realised she was losing her baby and cried out to them 'Kill me now'. Despite their best efforts neither mother or child survived.
